Green Lantern Movie (2011)

I know I have commented more on movies than comics here lately but with the comic heroes I enjoy are coming to the big screen very soon to a theater near you. This one is Green Lantern’s premiere character Hal Jordan, played by Ryan Reynolds, that’s right the one who played Deadpool in the Marvel blockbuster XMen Origins: Wolverine. But now he is dressed in green and wears the ring of power that’s only limitation is his imagination and will power.

The age of movies we live is great for realistic renditions of comic book heroes CGI and special effects have open us to a world of entertainment that never existed a few years ago. The Sky’s the limit anything can be done on the big screen, a look at Avatar the movie by James Cameron will demonstrate that fact. The Green Lantern movie will be the DC Universe test of that. There is already a controversy about the first look of the costume of Hal Jordan in July of 2010.

First Look Green Lantern

Some say it looks like a second layer of skin, it looks hokey, it looks great. One thing for sure it looks nothing like what I have seen in the comics. I will reserve my judgement till I see Hal in action. The studio is quite about the story line except for a paragraph taken from the new site the page’s source code:

“GREEN LANTERN – In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.”

If you do not know Parallax is a key character in Green Lantern history.

In the 2004/2005 miniseries Green Lantern: Rebirth, written by Geoff Johns, and penciled by Ethan Van Sciver, it was revealed that Parallax was actually a demonic parasitic entity dating back to the dawn of time and born from the yellow of the emotional spectrum. The parasite was the sentient embodiment of fear, traveling from world to world and causing entire civilizations to destroy themselves out of paranoia.

That is what is known at this moment. Of course you can find the full cast here, it includes Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, and Mark Strong as Sinestro. It looks like it has all the ingredients for a great movie. It already won the Most Anticipated Movie At The Spike ‘Scream 2010′ Awards’. We will be seeing you at the movies on this one I hope. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. 🙂 Walt

nice article, keep the posts coming

Green Lantern has always been a hard arc to put to the big screen because of all the intergalactic story’s, in many ways it is the Star Wars of the DC Universe. It will be great to see if they develop the alien characters that are in the comics. And what will they do with the Guardians little blue people that float around giving orders. If we are lucky they won’t look like Smurfs. All kidding aside I do hope they do this right.
